Your skin’s favorite Winter foundation

Pur-cosmetics-hydra-fluid-foundaiton

Pur-cosmetics-hydra-fluid-foundaitonIf dewy, breathable finish and healthy looking complexion is something that you’re after, look no further.

For as long as I can remember, the only type of foundation I liked was full coverage. Lately, however, I’ve been reaching for lightweight bases like Guerlain’s Meteorites Baby Glow Foundation. One of my recent favorites is also Pür Cosmetics Hydra Fluid Water Serum Foundation* ($39.00)

PÜR Cosmetics’ encapsulated water complex delivers Swiss Alps-sourced water to hydrate the skin for lasting radiance while providing silky, medium coverage.

Encapsulated Water Complex: Utilizes phospholipids (a major component of skin cell membranes) to deliver the purest water sourced from the Swiss Alps deep into the skin for long-lasting hydration.
Coverage: Medium, buildable coverage.
Texture / Finish: Lightweight, silky texture that creates a fresh, youthful appearance.
Ceretin Complex: Helps smooth, firm and lift the skin’s appearance for a hydrated, ageless complexion.

What I like:

-the packaging is awesome. Because the formula is so light and water-y, it might seem that you can accidentally dispense way too much product, however, the design of the dispenser is very unique: it dispenses one drop at a time
-gives light to medium coverage and leaves skin looking fresh and dewy which is definitely something my skin can use in winter
-very natural-looking, flawless, healthy finish
-buildable coverage
-blends very easily
-doesn’t accentuate dry patches, actually feels moisturizing and nourishing, without feeling greasy or oily

What I don’t like:

-won’t work with very oily skin
-only comes in 5 shades and if you have very fair skin, you won’t find a match

hydrafluid-foundation-review-pur-cosmetics

Pür Cosmetics Hydra Fluid Water Serum Foundation really reminds me of one of my favorite foundations: Chanel Vitalumière Aqua. It has a very similar consistency and also needs to shaken up a little before use. This foundation is very watery and feels extremely comfortable on skin. I tested it both with and without powder and I definitely prefer it with powder, no question about it. My skin is naturally very oily, but as I’ve mentioned countless times, it gets dry due to my tretinoin use, so it’s sort of a mix between oily-normal-dry depending on what skincare products I use (sometimes I use tretinoin every other day, sometimes I use it every day). I know that this is something I keep mentioning over and over again, but I just want to make it clear that while naturally my skin is very oily, it is a mix between dry and normal at the moment.

Your skin's favorite Winter foundation

Shade (top) vs. direct sunlight (bottom) left to right: Light, Medium, Tan, Dark and Deep

I use the lightest shade- Light- and even though it looked like it was going to be way too dark for me, once I blended it and set it with my powder, it looked fine. All five shades: Light, Medium, Tan, Dark and Deep also seem to be neutral-toned which is definitely unique and it’s something that I actually liked. With a lot of brands the lightest shades tend to have pinky undertones, which makes it difficult for me to find a match, but in this case, Light worked nicely (even though it looked a bit dark at first).

If you’re looking for a lightweight, moisturizing foundation that will give you light to medium coverage- you will love this foundation. If you’re on the oily side and prefer heavier, full-coverage base, I’d stay away from this one.

I really might try Pur! Winter is killing my face… I’m exfoliating twice a day and moisturizing like crazy and I still am forgoing my usual foundation because, right now, my skin looks better without it. ><

Have you tried using oils? They usually work wonders for me when my skin gets dry.

Actually, yes. I very recently started using jojoba oil from Trader Joe’s and it works wonderfully. I also mix 1 drop into my foundation and it works! So I don’t need to buy a new one now. :)

I am a huge fan of foundation serums, but unfortunately I have ridiculously oily skin, so thank you very much for mentioning that. This does sound amazing though, and you give the BEST reviews! XO -Kim

I tend to have oil skin so I don’t think if it’s going to be good for me but I could give it a try haha

By the sounds of it I would definitely love this foundation and I’m sure I could also find a shade match, but just not sure where exactly I can get my hands on the brand so I’ll have to suss that out x

I have been waiting for this post since I saw the picture on Instagram a few weeks ago! I have been really interested in serum foundations because I love lightweight coverage. I’m very pale, but I think we have about the same skin tone so if you made it work then I’m sure it will work for me too. I’ve never tried anything from this brand before but I’ve heard really good things.

Yes, I think the Light shade would work great for you! After I set it with a little powder it looks great.

Having very oily skin is such a big problem, and it sucks that many foundations don’t work on it. I am one of these unlucky people. Except the first and maybe second, all other shades are so dark, why can’t they come up with a wider range!

I have naturally oils skin too Ela, it’s just dry at the moment. Have you dried Make Up For Ever’s Mat Velvet +? It’s amazing for oily skin and it’s even waterproof.

I haven’t tried this foundation yet, but I have heard so many amazing things about the company. I love the idea of it only dispensing one drop at a time, it would help so much! Great post, x!

I do prefer fuller coverage foundation, especially during Autumn/Winter but definitely favour lighter bases during Summer. I struggle with non matte and lightweight foundations to last throughout the day on my skin though. x

I know what you mean Dagmara! Having naturally oily skin I’m the same way. I’m just currently dry because of the treatment I use.

I think it’s really interesting how foundation preferences can change over the years, I usually go for a medium coverage but that’ll probably change in future. This foundation sounds really good but there’s no way any of those shades would be light enough for me unfortunately, having fair skin can be so difficult at times!

Yeah, the fact that this foundation doesn’t have the greatest shade range is definitely a bummer!

I wish more lighter weight foundations worked with oily skin. This one seemed great up until that. Oil is my largest struggle. Love moisturizing foundations.

This sounds very nice. Personally, I really adore the Maybelline fit me foundation but I unfortunately bought the one with pink undertones, so I’d like to go for yellow undertones on my next purchase. Thanks for sharing these wonderful foundations.

These look nice! I’m trying to wear moisturizer every day this winter to keep my skin nice and clear. My only struggle with moisturizer is finding one that isn’t too heavy on my skin. The swatches are really useful as well- beautiful photography, as always! :)

Thank you so much Savannah! I love using Argan Oil as a lightweight moisturizer. Physicians Formula has one that’s very affordable and works amazing.
