Beauty

What’s in my makeup bag: February

I have to say that I’ve been doing pretty well in terms of not buying any new makeup. If I’m not mistaken,  the only product I bought over the last couple of weeks is the Pillow Talk lippie. I won’t say I wasn’t tempted, but I keep reminding myself that I really want to become a bit more mindful about my beauty-spending, since I’m pretty much drowning in products. My husband keeps joking (or not really) that pretty soon we’ll need a bigger house. My goal is to only buy products that I know I’ll use- not because they look pretty or because I want them in my collection.

Moving on.

I’m loving IT Cosmetics new foundation: Confidence in a Compact* (you can find my review right here). As I mentioned in my review, this solid serum foundation is a bit tricky to use. Applying it with a brush isn’t really ideal, but the applicator that this compact comes with works great. I noticed that the more I use it, the product becomes more creamy and easier to work with. It gives nice coverage (light to medium) and doesn’t dry out the skin.

Another foundation that you’re probably sick of seeing in my WIMMB posts is the Chanel Vitalumière Aqua. It has a very sheer, delicate coverage and is perfect for creating a fresh and natural-looking base.

I’ve also been testing out a few products from Claré Blanc Minerals*. It’s been a while since I’ve used mineral makeup, there was a point when I actually used it exclusively, so it’s nice to get familiar with it all over again. So far I’m really loving their Luminizing Mineral Powder in Be Mine and their blushes in Peach Pop and Powder Pink. I’m not a huge fan of very bright blush colors, but these are perfect and look quite natural. They definitely need to be used sparingly as they have a very nice color payoff. The powders feel very soft and smooth on the skin as well.

At this point, I’m still struggling with those awful dark circles under my eyes, as a side effect from Absorica. IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Illumination*, which has insane coverage (see the it in action in this post) is my go-to concealer right now. Yet again, this is another IT Cosmetics product that is a bit tricky to use- and that’s because the formula is very rich so it needs be warmed up a bit before applying directly to skin. Once you figure out how to use it though, it works amazingly well at covering dark circles.

Glō Minerals is another mineral makeup brand I was just introduced to. Their lippies in Organza and Fixation are gorgeous shades for spring. They have a nice, creamy formula and are richly pigmented. Speaking of lipstick, I am obsessed with Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk. I’ve been wearing it almost every single day and love everything from the formula to the color. It’s a nude that I think will be flattering on every skin tone. When it comes to nude lipsticks, it’s usually a hit or miss for me, but this one is beautiful. Two other nude-ish shades that I’m reaching for at the moment are Kat Von D’s Bow n Arrow and Too Faced Cool Girl (because I’m boring like that).

Can’t forget Glossier Boy Brow Clear (get 20% off your first order). I’m still trying to grow out my brows and the little hairs are all over the place, so this has been my go-to lately and it’s definitely a keeper. Keeps the brows in place all day.

What’s in your makeup bag this month?

Bow N Arrow was on my KVD wishlist but I have to say I’m not a fan of the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick formula. Maybe the nudes would be a bit better as you don’t have to be so worried about how they look when they need touched up but I don’t think I can justify splashing the cash on a product I find ‘meh’! On the other hand, all I hear about IT Cosmetics is amazing things, and I wish they were a bit easier to get a hold of in the UK! We get them on QVC here but they don’t have the CC Cream other than as part of a set, so I’m a bit hesitant to spend all the money at the moment! xx

I love It Cosmetics, their products are definitely amongst my favorite! Hope they’ll become a little easier to get a hold off in the UK soon.

Does Bow and Arrow look a little gray on you? Don’t get me wrong – it’s one of my favorite lipsticks right now, but I usually do a light wash of a faded pink over it to bring it back to a true nude. It might just be my skin tone.

I usually use a more pink-y liner underneath and only apply a very thin layer and it doesn’t look grey on me.

Pillow Talk is such a beautiful shade, I wonder how it would look with my skin though, it’s got yellow/olive undertones. Also, what do you think about the Melted Matte lipsticks? I’m tempted to try them, and this shade is really lovely!

Oh goodness, I know what you mean about trying to cut down because TOO MUCH STUFF. Mine’s more in the clothes territory (goes with the ‘more fashion blogging’ type thing). I can’t imagine if I did beauty too; my husband would probably divorce me!

As always, I love all of your beauty tips — but your lipstick ones are always so helpful! Like you, I find lipstick so very hit-and-miss. Will definitely give Pillow Talk a try at some point! :o)

The CT pillow talk lipstick just looks sooo gorgeous! I actually went to my nearest CT stand the other day but apparantly its an online exclusive, but I think I’m gonna gave to splurge on that one! I only have one CT product (a lipstick in the shade bond girl) but it is easily one of my fave products that I own! CT never fails to please, I would say they have the best packaging on the market.

I honestly feel a bit overwhelmed by my collection right now. I’m not super interested in a lot of new makeup right now, which comes at a great time (trying to no buy).
My dark circles are horrendous, so I’ll have to finally check out the Bye Bye Undereye. Still tempted by Pillow Talk!

I am with you on cutting back on buying makeup! I think I’ve been doing well, except for my epic failures of buying roughly 10 million different liquid eyeliners trying to find one that is waterproof enough to last while my left eye waters all day lol I swear this roller coaster weather is doing me in!

That Pillow Talk lipstick looks so beautiful! I’ve been working my way through a couple sample size lippies from Charlotte Tilbury that I got for Christmas and my goodness, that formula is just perfection. I understand the hype!
