Sweet cravings? Try this!

apple snack

Happy Saturday, Friends! Today’s post is a simple recipe that’s sure to satisfy those unwelcome sugar cravings we all get once in a while.

apple nut snack You will need:

100% natural peanut butter
handful of sliced almonds and chopped walnuts
1 apple (I used organic granny smith apples)
dark chocolate (or dark chocolate chips)
handful of goji berries

Slice your apple (after thoroughly washing it of course) into thick slices. You can core your apple prior to slicing it, I just cored each individual slice by cutting out a small triangle in the middle. Spread a generous amount of peanut butter on each slice, top with nut and berry mixture and finish off with some chopped dark chocolate or chocolate chips. I used soy and dairy-free dark chocolate with hazelnut and currant (yum!).

You have the crunchiness of a granny smith apple and nuts, smoothness of peanut butter, a bit of bitterness from dark chocolate and sweetness from goji berries (that are also full of antioxidants). Much better than a candy bar isn’t it? Only takes a few minutes to prepare and tastes absolutely delicious, most importantly- it’s guilt free.

This little treat is something similar to what my grandpa used to make for my sister and I when we were little. My grandparents had (still do to this day) a huge garden with the most delicious apples I’ve ever had. That was all we ate all summer long; fresh apples with some nuts and fresh grapes, straight off the vine. I miss being a kid sometimes :) .

This looks so yummy! I love a bit of peanut butter and apple for a snack – oh, and peanut butter and pear is also so yummy and doesn’t get enough credit!
I did buy some goji berries, but not sure about the taste just yet… did you like goji berries straight away or is it more of an ‘acquired taste’?? :P

Thanks Puja! I liked them straight away. They can be a bit bitter at times, but I didn’t find that to be an issue. They’re much sweeter when added to tea or some hot water with fresh lemon juice-it’s one of my favorite ways to have them ;)
