THIRTEEN THOUGHTS

Lovin’ Lately

You know what I really love about June this year? The fact that it still feels like spring. I mean, usually, we just jump right into summer, but this year, we’re actually having spring.

I’ve been loving the comfortable weather but after seeing recent photos of myself, wearing a skirt, I realized that it’s time to start self-tanning again. I mean, to say that my skin is pale, is an understatement. Hey, I’m totally okay with that- until it’s time to wear shorts. It’s this time of year when I love reaching out for glow-giving products (especially on my legs)  like Nuxe Shimmering Dry Oil– which, sadly, I believe to have been discontinued in the US (why?!!).  I luckily still have two bottles left, but I won’t pretend my feelings aren’t hurt.

Two other warm-weather products I’m loving are Tom Ford Orchid Soleil  (love this scent for summer), and Ouai Wave Spray. Guys, this wave spray is ahh-mazing. It’s THE best wave-spray I’ve ever used and I didn’t even realize my hair was capable of getting that beachy, wavy look. The first time I’ve used it my husband took one look at me and said: “wow, love your hair today, what did you do to it??” The man never, ever, comments on my hair. The only thing is that the spray is mega sticky, more than other wave sprays I’ve used, but perhaps, that is why it works so well. Love this stuff.

I can’t count how many times I’ve talked about Marc Jacobs Air Blush Soft Glow Duo in Flesh and Fantasy, but I’m still very much in love with this product. Generally, I am not a huge bronzer or cheek product person, but this one right here, is so, SO beautiful. It works so nicely with my pale skin, it doesn’t look too obvious, it blends beautifully and just adds that nice touch of color and glow to my skin. A lot of bronzers or blushes tend to accentuate some of my rolling acne scars on my cheeks, but Flesh and Fantasy is different. I always, always come back to this product.

I’m not sure how I’d survive the last couple of months if it wasn’t for BITE Beauty Agave Lip Mask. Dry lips are hands down the worst side-effect I’ve experienced on Accutane. They’re not just chapped, or dry- they crack at the sides, bleed. It’s not pretty. I have a whole bunch of balms I love and trust, but BITE Agave Lip Mask is my favorite. This mask/balm is so thick, that applying from the tube was a bit messy which is why everyone was SO excited when Bite released a balm version of the product. It works just as well as the lip mask, it feels the same and the application is SO much easier. The only thing is that the bullet is tiny and because the product is so thick, you go through it pretty quickly. I’m not complaining though- this stuff is amazing and I’d gladly pay even double the price. I was actually also prescribed a hydrocortisone ointment and it helped, but I couldn’t stand the bitter taste.

Amlactin Rapid Relief has been a lifesaver for my dry arms and shoulders. This AHA lotion gives instant results and gets rid of dry and flaky skin the moment it absorbs and leaves skin feeling smooth- it gets rid of all thise little bumps. If you suffer from KP or extremely dry skin and/or some slight hyperpigmentation and haven’t given this a try yet- do! I love using it on my legs, too, to prevent in-grown hair. The only thing I watch out for is not to apply too much, as it then feels a little sticky. Of course, as this contains AHAs, you also have to keep in mind that it increases your skin’s photosensitivity.

Dry skin has been the main beauty topic over the last couple of months here- I know. I talked about Paula’s Choice Resist Omega + Complexin this post and I’m already on a second bottle. I use this serum under my moisturizer- it’s very lightweight and extremely hydrating. It doesn’t really compare to any other serum I’ve used before. I’m not sure if it does anything to improve the way my skin looks (it’s said to help with visible signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, and loss of firmness) BUT it absolutely changes the way my skin feels. It leaves it feeling soft, hydrated and smooth.

One of my favorite moisturizers I constantly reached for during my treatment, is Clinique’s Moisture Surge (if you want hydrated skin but don’t like thick, greasy moisturizers and need something lightweight, Moisture Surge is for you). I also bought the Overnight Mask from the same range. Initially, I didn’t find it to be hydrating enough, but after a couple of uses, I changed my mind. It feels just like a regular moisturizer- it’s not too thick or too greasy and it absorbs nicely into the skin. I still used a moisturizer underneath, as the mask, on its own, wasn’t hydrating enough for me (keep in mind that my skin is extremely dry at the moment). When combined with a moisturizer, I do wake up to my skin feeling more comfortable and nourished.

You know I have a thing for cleansers. I’ve been wanting to try Pixi’s Glow Mud Cleanser* for a while now, so I was pretty excited when it arrived in my mailbox. It’s a deep-pore cleanser, but it’s still very gentle, it has a mild scent but it doesn’t irritate or burn the skin but instead, leaves it feeling soft and smooth as it gently exfoliates. It’s definitely a keeper.
