THIRTEEN THOUGHTS

Spring Beauty

I can easily say that it’s been a while since I was this excited for spring. My dry-skin hates me and while there is a bright side (no need for a setting powder or midday touch-ups), I’m not sure which one’s more uncomfortable to deal with: extremely oily skin that leaves your makeup looking like it’s literally melting off your face after a few hours, or extremely dry skin that feels tight and well… dry.

Meh. I can’t say that I miss having my makeup melt off my face at the end of a workday.

Finding a good base product that has minimal coverage and won’t dry me out hasn’t been easy; which is why I’m sticking to an old school favorite: Chanel Vitalumiére Aqua. I love that it feels like skin, but also makes it look even and natural. It’s been really interesting to see my skin go through this change, because this foundation used to look awful on me when my skin was oily and did completely nothing for me. Now I reach for it almost every single day.

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Beige is such a beautiful product (one that seriously lasts forever). I love it because I can use it both on my eyes and cheeks. It’s perfect for creating a delicate sun-kissed look. Rose Shimmer Brick is probably one of my top 10 makeup products of all time. If you’re not much of a blush person, but would still like to add some color to your cheeks, this product is for you. Baby Love from Too Faced is another blush I love to reach for when I don’t want that glow that Rose Shimmer Brick gives me.

Just as I’m picky when it comes to blush products, I’m even worse when it comes to bronzers. Right side of my face is covered with deep rolling scars so using a bronzer usually makes them even more visible. Right now I’m testing out a No7 Bronzer in Caramel* and so far I’m loving it. It’s not too orange and looks very delicate when using a light hand. Another No7 product I’m testing is the Radiant Glow Concealer* in #10. To be quite honest, this doesn’t give a whole lot of coverage and I don’t see it give me a whole lot of glow, but I do like how delicate it is and that it doesn’t look too bright or harsh. Probably not my favorite though.

Also, it doesn’t matter how many mascaras I try, buy and use. I always come back to Dior’s Iconic Overcurl. HG status right here.

Sunscreen is very, very important- not just during warmer months. I use SPF 50 all-year round. My favorite is this one from MD Solar Sciences, I also love Coola* that I talked about a few days ago and Bienfait UV SPF 50+ Super Fluid (I got this one in one of my Influenster Voxboxes and didn’t think I’d love it this much). Sugar Bloom Tinted Lip Treatment* from Fresh is also a new favorite- very hydrating with a gorgeous mauve-y tint.

We had such beautiful weather over the Easter that I actually wore a dress. I was also mortified when looking at our family pictures on Sunday and saw how pale my legs were. I go through this every single spring, but this year my skin seems to have turned translucent. I’m not ready to start fake-tanning just yet- it’s usually something I do during summer, can’t be bothered to add another thing to my beauty routine just yet! I do, however, have two products I reach for that make my pale-ass skin less scary: Jergens BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream and Nuxe Dry Oil. The body BB cream is one of my favorite drugstore products- can’t tell you how many tubes of this I went through. It helps to even out the skin tone, it’s hydrating, firming and overall a great product to use if you have dry, pale skin and like to wear skirts, dresses or shorts. It adds a tiniest amount of tint- just enough to even out the skin tone. I sometimes mix it with the Nuxe Dry Oil to add a little extra glow.
