THIRTEEN THOUGHTS

What’s in my makeup bag: April

whats in my makeup bag

Light base, subtle blush and simple eye is what I’ve been going for lately.

If you ask me, I think that my makeup game has been a bit boring in the last couple of weeks. I don’t know if it’s due to fact that I’m extremely busy lately and a little short on time,  or because the weather is finally starting clear and spring has me feeling like all I really need is just a little bit of makeup.

Well, for an average person the contents of my makeup bag would definitely not be considered “little” or “small” but that’s because usually I like to rotate between few foundations. I rarely use the same one two days in a row. I’m weird like that.

BASE

Right now I’m testing out two new foundations: Clarins True Radiance Perfect Skin Foundation and Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation. Both are great foundations for this time of year, because they feel very light and comfortable on skin. Of course, any time you look at my makeup bag, you’ll also always find a bottle of MUFE Mat Velvet+ foundation, as this is my favorite foundation and I can’t live without it. IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream is another all-time favorite and while it has a vey different formula than these foundations (it actually might feel a bit heavier, depending on your application technique) I love it because it feels great on my skin and gives amazing coverage. Few weeks a go, I also bought Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Illuminating Beauty Balm, but to be honest, I’m a bit confused about this product. I thought it would be like a light base/BB cream with some light coverage, but I think of it more as a primer. It gives no coverage at all, but does add a little glow and has a really cool, smoothing effect. I think that the sparkle that it adds can be a bit much for everyday use, but I did use this as a highlighter a few times (layered with another all-time favorite The Balm’s Mary-Lou Manizer) and it worked great for that. Pixi’s Hydrating Milky Mist with Hyaluronic Acid and Black Oat is also amazing for prepping my currently very dry skin for makeup application. For concealing, you already know how much I love Urban Decay’s NAKED Concealer.

COLOR

I’ve been pretty boring with my eye makeup lately and the only palette I seem to reach for is Stila’s Spirit Palette. Dagmara from Mummy’s Beauty Corner recently reminded me just how much I love Too Faced blush in Baby Love, so I had to dig it out. Still loving MAC’s Cosmic Force, too. As far as lipstick goes, I almost always use a different shade every day, but two I’ve been reaching for the most are Chanel’s Rouge Allure Velvet in L’Amoureuse (#47) and NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Cream in Zurich. As much as I love my ABH’s Brow Pomade, it seems like the only brow product I’ve been using for last couple of weeks is IT Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Brow Pencil. Love that this gives me natural brows and doesn’t look too dark. It’s, without a doubt, one of the best brow pencils I’ve tried. Last but not least: mascara. It’s no secret that Lash Sensational is still a favorite (probably always will) but I also love IT Cosmetics Superhero mascara. Lash Sensational is great at creating a natural look with long, separated lashes, while Superhero gives a ton of volume.
