THIRTEEN THOUGHTS

What’s in My Makeup Bag : June

June was all about bright lips and light bases.

I’m overjoyed at the fact that I can once again wear matte lip products.

It’s the little things, guys.

Physically, I’ve been in so much pain since my accident that I’ve decided to only pay attention to and do things that make me happy. That includes makeup. Hey, I might feel like crap, but that doesn’t mean that I have to look it, too.

Maybelline’s new Superstay Matte Ink Lip Colors are amazing. I received two of these (Lover and Pioneer) from Influenster and I’m definitely picking up a few more. The color payoff is great, the applicator is perfection and they last all-day-long. The only downside is that the formula is a bit tacky/sticky, but they’re so long-lasting that this is hardly something to complain about. These work as well as some of the high-end lip colors I’ve used. If you’re on the lookout for a great matte lip product, this is it.

Now that I can finally enjoy wearing matte lip products again I love reaching for Burberry’s Liquid Lip Velvet in Oxblood*- it’s one of my favorites. It’s definitely not a very summery color but I love using it for a night out. Clinique’s Chubby Stick Baby Tint in Budding Blossom is perfect for just a hint of tint and a nice dose of moisture. This summer I’m also loving NARS Jungle Red.

I know that lip-plumping glosses/balms aren’t for everyone, I personally love that tingle they leave behind. Buxom lip polishes were always my favorite in this department (right after Dior’s Lip Maximizer). Dolly is one of my favorites and right now I’m also using Pink Champagne* (pictured here).

One of the most interesting additions to my makeup bag this past month was, without a doubt, the BlendSmart Rotating Makeup Brush.* This brush is battery-operated and includes a universal foundation brush attachment which rotates when applying product (you can also purchase separate attachments such as powder brush, blush brush, etc.).

The whole idea behind this tool is to create a flawless, airbrushed finish. This brush definitely does give a beautiful and natural-looking finish, but it takes a bit of practice to learn how to use it. You’re supposed to apply your base products while gliding the brush side-to-side and up-and-down. My instinct is to always apply my face products using a circular motion, so it took some getting used to. All three brushes are very soft and work great, but it’s definitely a tool I’ll be reaching for only when I have a lot of time to do my makeup (for things like special occasions).

My base products for the month of June were a mix of high-end and drugstore. I reached out for one of my favorite pre-Accutane foundations: Maybelline’s Matte + Poreless. Seriously an amazing product for oily skin, but I think my skin might be still a bit too dry for it. I’m tempted to try the Dewy version of this foundation- I hated it when my skin was oily so it might work for my dry skin. Another oily-skin favorite of mine was always Chanel’s Perfection Lumière. For concealers, I love Maybelline’s Age Rewind in Fair and NARS’s Soft Matte Concealer in Crème Brulée.

Coola’s BB Cream in Light/Medium* is perfect for those no-makeup days. Minimal coverage, adds a nice glow to the skin and blends easily. I talk about Luminous Silk all the time and you already know that I love it- it’s in constant rotation.

Givenchy Prisme Libre Loose Powder in Voile Rosé is a very finely milled powder that adds a beautiful glow to skin (it works well with dry skin, too). The only downside is that it does look a bit shimmery when under very bright light. Other than that, it’s a beautiful product. The packaging is beautiful, although getting the product out can be a bit tricky.

Givenchy Noir Couture 4 in 1 Mascara*– I didn’t think that this particular brush shape would work for my lashes, but it does an amazing job at separating them, giving volume and it even curls them. I’m not sure how this brush works, but it’s incredible. Huge fan of this formula non-flake, long-lasting formula, my only hope is that it won’t dry out too fast.

Oh, and of course, I have to mention this Tom Ford eyeliner, which I already talked about in this post. Definitely one of the priciest and at the same time, best eyeliners I’ve ever used.

What products did you reach for during the month of June?

PS. Thank you all for your kind comments on my last post! Your kindness means the world to me. Love you. Mean it.
