The Body Shop Superfood Face Masks
Yes, these smell as delicious as they look… and they should seriously come with a “do not eat” warning.
A dream come-true for anyone, who loves multi-masking and likes to enjoy an occasional pamper session. All five of these new Superfood Face Masks from The Body Shop* are 100% vegetarian and three are completely vegan. Also, did I mention how good they smell? :)
From The Body Shop:
“Discover our collection of facial masks, sourced from across the globe to repair, clarify, and hydrate your skin and leave you with a healthy, youthful glow. Created with Community Trade natural ingredients including rose petals, charcoal, green tea, honey, ginseng, acai, marula oil & more. From a hydrating, firming mask that improves elasticity, to an anti-oxidant rich mask that energizes skin & fights signs of fatigue, to a clarifying, exfoliating and smoothing mask, we have the perfect mask for you. Your spa day awaits!”
THESE 5 NEW MASKS INCLUDE:
British Rose Fresh Plumping Mask– it has a clear, gel texture and it moisturizes, hydrates and nourishes skin. I love that it didn’t feel sticky or uncomfortable on my skin and that it left my skin feeling very soft and smooth. This mask is great for dry skin. It washes off easily and is really refreshing.
Amazonian Acai Energizing Radiance Mask– perfect for when your skin needs a little pick-me-up. This mask is great for tired, dull skin- perfect to use in the morning, right before hopping in the shower. This actually gives you a bit of exfoliation, too- all while being gentle and delicate. The Energizing Radiance Mask is something I’d use before a special occasion.
Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask– also currently known as my absolute favorite. It’s probably one of the only Charcoal Masks I’ve used (and I’ve used a lot of them) that has such a strong tingle- which I totally love. It gives my skin that deep-clean/pure kind of feeling that I love in my face masks. It helps me deal with the oiliness, without drying me out. It’s perfect for anyone with oily and/or acne-prone skin.
Ethiopian Honey Deep Nourishing Mask– moisturizing, nourishing and hydrating mask that would be perfect for mature/dry skin. It feels very smooth and silky on skin and smells absolutely delicious.
Chinese Ginseng and Rice Clarifying Polishing Mask– this is another favorite for me. It’s super creamy, exfoliating and brightening. I love that there’s a lot of gentle exfoliation with this mask- nothing that will scratch or irritate your skin. I love applying this for 10-12 minutes and then gently removing it with a warm muslin cloth, in circular motions. Skin feels very refreshed and other products absorb SO much better.
WHY LOVE THEM…
You guys know that I’ve been battling acne, oh… I don’t know… probably since I was 12. Changing my diet did wonders for my skin- cystic acne, be gone! But I still battle with a lot of oiliness, clogged pores and hormonal breakouts. I’ve been on various acne prescription meds for about a year now, and they changed my skin. I still get oily during the day, but at the same time my skin feels very dry and flaky. With these masks, I can tackle several of my skin’s needs at the same time (you can obviously do the same with any other masks, as well).
I love the fact that these contain so many natural ingredients and that they’re gentle enough to use twice a week, even when my skin is feeling extra-sensitive. They also deliver. Big time. All you need is 5-10 minutes. No uncomfortable tightness, either.
IS THERE ANYTHING NOT TO LOVE?
As cute as it may be, at first I wasn’t convinced about the jar packaging. When it comes to skincare I always worry about active ingredients staying…well.. active. I worry about exposing those plant-based antioxidants or light-sensitve ingredients to light and other elements. BUT, I don’t think it’s a big issue, if a product contains proper preservatives. These Superfood Face Masks do come in dark/tinted jars that don’t let the light in. As far as being hygienic… I always use a foundation brush (love this one from elf, too) to apply my masks and wash it after each use, so there’s that.
These also contain fragrance, which is another thing I don’t love in skincare, but in all honesty I don’t mind it in masks- as long as it isn’t too strong. I didn’t notice that the fragrance irritated my skin and don’t find it to be too harsh. I have a few fragrance-free face masks and something feels a bit off when I use them. When you use a face masks, that light fragrance sort of helps you relax and really enjoy that little pampering. So, since none of these irritated my currently confused, tired and sensitive skin- I think I’ll live. Plus, the scent of all of these is very natural, refreshing and not at all overwhelming.
MY FAVORITE COMBO IS…
British Rose Fresh Plumping Mask and Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask. I use the Plumping Mask on my cheeks and neck and the Purifying Glow Mask on my chin, nose and forehead. This combo is ahhmazing! The Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask is definitely my favorite out of the five. It has a slight tingle to it, which is quite pleasant. My skin feels amazing after this mask- not dry and tight, just very clean, smooth and supple. The Plumping Mask is so different from anything I’ve used before. It leaves my skin feeling very soft and refreshed. I really like using a gentle exfoliator before applying the Plumping Mask- I think that this really does make a difference in the way it works with my skin.
The Chinese Ginseng and Rice Clarifying Polishing Mask is amazing for those days when your skin feels dull. It’s cool and refreshing, but don’t let the “polishing” part scare you off- this mask offers a gentle exfoliation without being too harsh. I actually tried using this for 5 minutes, BEFORE applying the British Rose Fresh Plumping Mask and my skin felt incredible after that combo. Really sort of that I-just-had-an-amazing-facial sort of feeling.

October 6, 2016 at 5:14 amI am curious about these masks, I haven’t had a chance to go to TBS to check them out. Charcoal and acai one sound good, I will definitely check them out. I don’t like jar packaging for skincare products, however, companies don’t seem to change their opinions about it. I also prefer fragrance free skincare products, but then it is hard to find them. I think I wouldn’t mind delicious scent though :)

October 6, 2016 at 7:46 amI don’t like jar packaging either, I don’t know why companies still use it. Especially some of those high-end brands- seems like a waste of money.

October 6, 2016 at 6:04 amI had a ‘bad’ experience from TBS clay mask in which they did nothing but stinging my mask, so I was iffy about this. Until I read somewhere they sort of formulated it again, so, I’m tempted to try these ones, especially the british rose & acai berry.

October 6, 2016 at 11:16 amOoooh that Rose one sounds REALLY nice! I got a rose mask sample in a Glossybox a couple months ago and I love it! When I go through my mask stash I think I will be picking that up. There used to be a Body Shop store in the mall by my house but it closed so I keep forgetting about them. They have such great stuff!

October 6, 2016 at 5:28 pmThey look lovely. I’d like to try the Rose one as I have dry skin. I quite like Rose in my skincare… I have the Jurlique Rose face mist and the Fresh rose mask. Maybe the Body Shop mask could be a dupe for the Fresh.

October 7, 2016 at 10:48 amI had a look at these in-store the other day but I couldn’t decide between them and as I’ve got a couple of masks on the go I didn’t get any! This post has made me want to go back now though haha! I loved the look of them all except the honey one – it smelled really off, but I suppose that could have been because the tester may have been open for a while.

October 10, 2016 at 1:26 pmThese look interesting! That one charcoal one reminds me of the new Clinique charcoal exfoliating mask I just got. But I also am trying a sample of a mask I think you’ll also LOVE: First Aid Beauty Bouncy Mask. I heard Alexandrea Garza talk about it on her snap or YT about it being very similar to a Hydrafacial and now that I’ve tried the hydrafacial, I got a sample of the Bouncy mask and used it last night – AMAZING! My pores looked freshly extracted, skin calm, soft and clean. I can’t wait to try it again. Totally recommend!
