Green Spring Smoothie

I don’t know about you, but I love this time of year.

I love it when the trees start to blossom, sun starts to shine a little brighter and there’s this fresh, spring smell in the air. I think we all tend to get a little lazy during winter- I know I do, I just can’t stand the cold sometimes. I think that staying active is so much easier during warmer months and even though I try to keep my diet clean and healthy all year long, I always like to clean it up even more, right around this time of year. I think it’s the beautiful weather that just makes me want to drink smoothies all day and go for long runs.

Today I’m sharing a quick, healthy and absolutely delicious recipe for a green spring smoothie that is perfect to kick-start your day. It’s vibrant, full of fresh flavors, energizing and full of vitamins and nutrients. I love using spinach as a base for my green smoothies- I find it to be a little milder than other greens like kale. Pineapple adds a little sweetness and ginger adds a a nice kick to this smoothie, really taking it to the next level.

GREEN SPRING SMOOTHIE (2 servings)

2 cups fresh pineapple
2 handfuls of spinach
1/2 avocado
1 ripe banana
1 cup coconut water
2 cups of ice
1 inch piece ginger root
1 tbs flaxseed

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend on high speed until well-combined. I really love my green smoothies *cold* so I added 2 cups of ice, but if you don’t want your to be as cold, you can add 1 cup of ice and add an extra cup of coconut water.

Whether you already love green smoothies or have yet to try one- I guarantee that you will love this one!

Sounds delicious!! I usually dont favor avocado in my smoothies but hopefully the pineapple will mask it :)

I used to hate green smoothies, but now I love them so long as they have plenty of pineapple or strawberries. This sounds delicious!

That looks delicious and easy to make! Some smoothies require so many ingredients and preparation, this one is perfect. I can’t wait to make it this weekend.

This looks really nice and refreshing, and actually a pretty nice shade of green. Wish I could handle the combo of pineapple and coconut together, sadly there’s something about the two combined that just urks me.
