Lovin’ Lately

Mostly skincare this month, I’m afraid.

My skin has this weird thing when it comes to micellar waters- it’s either indifferent to them, or they make it break out in huge, red, blotchy hives.

Toward the end of my acne treatment, which left me with horribly dry lips, I discovered that micellar water does wonders to dry and cracked lips. Sometimes exfoliating isn’t an option (when lips are bleeding and extremely sensitive) but having those dry bits hang around isn’t a cute look either. Soak a cotton round in micellar water and press to your lips for 5 seconds or so, and they’ll feel much better.

Well, at least that’s what seems to be working for me, my only wish is that I had discovered this sooner! I think that one of the best micellar water I’ve tried over the years is one form Jouviance. Turns out, Erborian Cleansing Water* is just as amazing. I only reach for micellar water when removing my makeup and even though I usually rotate between a few, I’ve been reaching for this one exclusively, over the last couple of weeks. It works really well with my sensitive skin and, most importantly, it doesn’t make me break out in hives. This one, my skin actually likes.

I never leave the house without SPF and now that summer is here I use it from head to toe, not just my face. Temperatures are always a struggle for me during summer, mainly because I’m always cold. I love wearing cute summer clothes, but then I always have to bring a jacket, sweater or a hoodie wherever I go (seriously some places keep the AC on full blast 24/7). While I’m not very likely to be found at the beach and I usually stay away from the sun, once in a while I do love to spend some time basking outside. Lately, I’ve been reaching for Coola’s Sport Continuous Spray with SPF50* and I’m in love. It’s not sticky, it’s unscented and invisible once applied on the skin.

Maybelline-SuperStay-Matte-Ink-Lip-Color-in-Lover

Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink Lip Colori in Lover (received in one of the Influenster boxes) has been one of my favorite lip colors lately. I already talked about my love for this unique formula in my June Makeup Bag post, but I’m also a huge fan of the applicator. The shape is perfect and it makes it so easy to apply the product, even without a lip liner. Lover is a beautiful mauve-y shade. The formula is very long-lasting (and extremely impressive), but it does stain quite a bit- a bit of color will stay on your lips long after you washed it off.

Another Maybelline product I’ve been loving just as much is their Age Rewind Concealer. It’s definitely one of the best drugstore makeup products out there- if you have dark circles and dry skin, you two could be very good friends.

Paula’s Choice products rarely ever disappoint- I actually don’t think I’ve ever used a product I didn’t like. The Resist Omega+ Complex Serum has been a lifesaver to my dry skin during my treatment and even though my skin isn’t nearly as dry as it was, I still reach for this serum every single day (I’m on my 3rd bottle).  I’m not really sure if it helps with aging at all (I ended up with one annoying wrinkle around my mouth after getting off Absorica and this doesn’t seem to help at all) but it brings instant relief to dry skin. Not only that, but it makes skin feel smooth and soft. I always think the same thing when I apply this: I want my skin to feel like this, all the time.

Hyaluronic Acid serums have been a part of my skincare routine for a good couple of years now. Right now, I’m using PC’s Hyaluronic Acid Booster* and I’m really loving it. I love the fact that it’s formulated with ceramides. Truth be told it’s probably too early to tell if it works better than other affordable versions (I still love this one– after all these years!) but my skin is loving it.

I’ve been trying a bunch of products from Perricone MD’s Elemental Energy range, and the two that I love most is definitely the Cloud Cream* and the Firming Foam Mask*. The Cloud Cream has such an incredible consistency- very light, airy and soft, slightly cooling. It’s a very lightweight moisturizer, perfect for daytime use and works beautifully under makeup.

Now, for the Firming Foam Mask– it’s a perfect product for when your skin needs a little boost. It does leave the skin feeling more firm and looking brighter, and it’s also a pretty fun product to use as it actually foams while on the skin. It does tingle a bit, but not to the point where it feels extremely uncomfortable. It’s one of those products that I reach for when I want my makeup to look flawless. While I’m not a huge fan of jar packaging in skincare, I wish that every face mask came housed in a packaging like this one. It makes for a mess-free application. I usually use my Elf mask tool to apply my face masks, and I can’t imagine going back to using my fingers (although I did use a flat foundation brush for years and that works well, too).

And, since you all know I have a thing for candles, I have to also mention Context White Triana candle. Not only does the matte black jar look beautiful, but it smells incredible and it includes some of my favorite notes (sandalwood). Also, the throw is great- not overwhelming but all it takes is 10 minutes of burning the candle to fill the entire room with a beautiful, warm and refreshing scent. I already have a back up one to keep in my self-care kit.

I always have terribly dry cracked lips – I’m definitely going to give the micellar water soaked cotton pad a try! I’ve been eyeing up Erborian so perhaps I’ll give their micellar water a try! The Context candles are indeed gorgeous!!! I just ordered some Kavaldon candles but perhaps I’ll pick up some Context ones next.

That’s such a good tip! I’ve never thought to soothe dry lips with micellar water. Going to have to try that :)

I am not a huge fan of the Age Rewind Concealer, I think my skin isn’t dry enough to fully appreciate it. On my skin it is just a nice concealer with an applicator that grosses me out. But I know I am a minority.

Thank you for sharing this, it seems like there’s a lot of great products :) The thing that I’m MOST excited about is your micellar water tip haha. I get really dry and cracked lips which is definitely never a good look but, no matter how much lip balm or scrubbing of the lips I do – It sometimes just doesn’t help. I will be definitely be trying micellar water on them from now on.

    Have a great day :)

I need to finally give Paula’s Choice a go!
Also, I do really understand your struggle with always being cold; I am exactly the same. Luckily most UK buildings do not have AC, but going to a bank or something, so awful :)

I wish it was socially acceptable for me to bring my winter coat to a supermarket during summer haha! Seriously, I don’t know how people work there and wear short sleeves!

I have really dry lips, I will definitely be giving your tip a go! I tend to use the Garnier water (with the oil in, forgotten its name), and I love it, so hopefully it does the drink. I’m also a fan of age rewind, I love the applicator as well as the formula. Makes it so quick and easy!
