Beauty

What’s in my makeup bag: April

I gotta say, after four months of not buying any new makeup, I’m doing pretty well in the beauty-spending department.

Back in January I had a huge beauty-cleanup and was shocked to see how wasteful I’ve become. I had SO much makeup, haircare, body care and a lot of it was just sitting around. So, after getting rid of a huge portion of my collection, I promised myself not to buy any new makeup until April.

April came and I was convinced that I’ll go on a huge spree and start spending money mindlessly (again), but you know what? I didn’t.

After my “spending ban” ended, I picked up just a handful of products I know I’ll use on regular basis- not because they’re “pretty” or will work nicely as a blog photo prop (seriously).

A lot of products in this month’s *What’s in my makeup bag* are repeat offenders; products I mention all the time (like my HG Dior Iconic Overcurl  mascara) so I won’t waste time talking about those.

The newbies from Marc Jacobs Beauty- the Omega Bronze LE bronzer in Tan-Tastic and Dew Drops. Guys, this bronzer is SO beautiful- and I’m not just talking about the packaging here. It smells like coconuts, blends really nicely and isn’t too warm- which means that it works well with my pale skin. As it comes with a lot of LE products, they sell out all the time, I picked mine up at Neiman’s. The Dew Drops is a coconut gel highlighter that gives the most beautiful, peachy glow- love the pump + glass bottle packaging.

Also new: cream and powder eye duo from Tom Ford in Paradiso. Another beautiful TF product that is so easy to use. It’s a mix of golden, rosy and bronze hues and I know I’ll be reaching for this duo all the time.

IT Cosmetics Confidence in Your Glow* in Nude Glow– so much love for this  product. It’s a “Healthy Flush Bronzer” that gives skin a dose of that beautiful, healthy glow we’re all after. There is a bit fallout with this product, but it’s really, really beautiful with a smooth silky texture.

In one of my Lovin’ Lately posts, I talked about Dr. Dana’s nail system which is all I’ve been using as far as nail care goes. Dr. Dana’s new product, Lips & Tips* is a perfect duo to keep in your bag. One end has a lip gloss, and the other has my favorite cuticle treatment (the same one that comes in the Nail Renewal System).

I’m also trying a bunch of No7 makeup products, and I’ve been loving Stay Perfect lippie in Cinnamon Spice.* It has a very nice formula that actually is quite long-lasting- definitely impressed with this one and want to pick up a few more of these.

I also wanted to briefly talk about the makeup bag itself. Full disclosure, this bag was sent to me by Henry Charles, but in no way is this post sponsored; I just know a real gem when I see one and I love supporting talented, tirelessly working people. The Large Deluxe Cosmetic bag is made with vegan leather and coated, water-resistant lining. The bag is beautiful- It could also double as a hand bag, too, but what I love most about it, is how much makeup I can fit in.

Henry Charles Large Deluxe Cosmetic Bag

There are a bunch of small and large compartments inside and loops for storing eyeliners and small brushes; it’s a perfect bag for all of us beauty junkies. And guys, this bag is so sturdy- it’ll definitely be a perfect travel companion for me as well.

Quality, quality, quality. I am so impressed with both the quality and the design of this bag,  I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything similar. Did I mention quality? Seriously, if you spend a nice chunk of your cash on luxury makeup, it only makes sense to carry/store it in something as beautiful as this bag (they also have a few other designs, btw). I spoke to the founder of Henry Charles, Candice, and she herself is such a kind and hardworking person (and a talented designer, duh!) and her passion definitely shows through her work. Henry Charles is a small company (for now) but I know they’re going places.

Tom Ford Eyeshadow Duo in Paradiso, Mar Jacobs Dew Drops, No7 Cinnamon Spice, No7 Berry Blush, Jouer lip topper in Skinny Dip, Fresh Sugar Bloom Lip Treatment, Dr. Dana Lips & Tips in Nude and Pink, It Cosmetics Nude Glow and Marc Jacobs Omega Bronze in Tan-Tastic.

What makeup products did you guys love in April?

I rediscovered two lip crayons that had not gotten much love before, a sheer orange one and one that is perfect for the office and had them on rotation pretty much the whole month.

I need to stop purchasing makeup and use up some of the products I already have, but I just can’t seem to resist treating myself to new products.

Nothing wrong with that as long as you actually use them! haha! I used to buy SO much makeup that’d just sit around and go to waste, it was bad, lol.

Nude Glow is my favorite of the IT Cosmetics Confidence in your Glow Palettes too! I can’t get enough of it. I am so tempted to buy that new Marc Jacobs bronzer too!

Aw thanks so much Serein! It was definitely a little eye-opening to see how many unused or sometimes even unopened products I had sitting around. Not an easy thing to do for a blogger, but I’m definitely practicing some mindfulness in the beauty department ;)

I managed to get my hands on the Marc Jacobs Dew Drop highlighter and on me it’s a soft bronzy gold. I didn’t managed to get the bronzer though which broke my heart. Do you think the bronzer will be too light for someone who is medium skin tone?

I think it might work for medium skin tone, but anything deeper than that, I think it’s too light. I was actually going to mention this in the post- I wish it came in a darker shade as well, as this one won’t work for every single skin tone.

I had a big declutter of my make up ages ago – I found I had so many items I just wasn’t using or didn’t even really like. It’s made it so much easier to choose what make up to wear x

I’m obsessed with davines OI All in One Hair Milk. I have wiring curly hair and it’s always a challenge for me to smooth it. This was like magic! I still can’t believe how good it is. (Got it in my Birchbox.)

Thanks for sharing your great finds with us! Happy weekend! ?

Loving your current rotation of products, so many good choices! I’ve been dabbling with the MJ Dew Drops and I think I like it! I usually add a drop in to blend with my foundation – do you usually do that too or do you actually apply it over your makeup as a highlighter of some sort? On the makeup front I’ve been pretty well behaved as I’m really just working through the items that I have, but skincare is a different story for me and I gotta get myself back in check haha. Always love these posts of yours!!

I like mixing it with a moisturizer- I feel like it’s a bit too intense for me on its own. At least for now, when my skin is pale af lol I’ll have to try mixing them with my foundation next!

Oh same here Cindy- I’ve been SO good at buying less makeup, can’t say the same thing about skincare haha ;)

I’ve just had a makeup clearout myself and realised that I hardly have anything! Seriously, I’ve been so much more into fashion lately that I’ve hardly bought any makeup, and a lot of what I did have was old and needed to go. Of course, this means I need to buy a whole lot more! I’m definitely in the market for a new bronzer and that Marc Jacobs one looks amazing. x

I love the look of Tom Ford makeup but so far I have only been able to buy lipstick.
The Marc Jacobs products look super cool – I love their packaging.
I have to have a spending ban too at the moment coz my cat has cost me so much at the vet!

That Marc Jacobs bronzer looks amazing! White packaging always sucks me in. I had a sample of the Dew Drops made when I went to Sephora a couple of weeks ago and I’m loving them. So pretty. The makeup bag looks super cute and functional – a rare find!

That bronzer looks so pretty! And I buy a ton of things to be photo props haha. I have a whole bucket of products that exist to be props now. Most are expired so I don’t feel bad about keeping them around.
What’s you favorite Marc Jacobs beauty product? I’ve never bough any full sized product since it’s so expensive! I don’t want to spend money on something that isn’t worth it.

Their blushes are amazing- Flesh & Fantasy is seriously one of my favorite cheek products, it’s just stunning. Go swatch it at a store- it’s incredible and the formula is so lovely too. I am not a huge cheek product girl, but that one stole my heart!
