6 Tips for organizing your beauty products

Remember that time when I was in a hurry and accidentally used an eyeliner to fill in my brows?

Yea.. that’s when I decided NOT to store my brow pencils in the same container as my eyeliners.

I’m doing a little spring cleaning around the house and decided to reorganize and re-paint my little beauty room/closet (again- btw would you guys like to see a before/after post?). This is a perfect opportunity to get rid of all the unused and unloved products that have been taking up space and organize my stash a little.

I’ll be honest- I probably reorganize my makeup way too often, but truth be told, I find this to be very therapeutic- especially if I get to throw away a bunch of old/used up products.

This, of course, depends on how large your makeup collection is. If you’re anything like me and have A LOT of makeup, do what I do and keep all of your essentials and daily staples in one tray or a big makeup bag. This way, you’ll have your most-used and loved products stored in one place where they’re easily accessible. I also keep a separate little basked for products I’m testing out for reviews- this is a big help.

Go through your stash and store away whatever you don’t use on regular basis. Even if your makeup collection isn’t extensive, you’d be surprised how many products just sit in your beauty corner, not being used. I also have a few “backup” products- like an extra bottle of my favorite foundation in my summer shade, or my favorite mascara- I store those away too.

Using dividers is a perfect solution for clustering products together. I keep my makeup organized by category: concealer, bronzers, blushes, etc. If you don’t have drawers then I highly recommend using one of the acrylic makeup organizers. I personally love MUJI, but I also use something similar to this to store my lipsticks. There are many places you can find them online, but I actually bought a few of these in places like HomeGoods and Marshalls.

Some of my favorite “everyday” lip products.

This is something we all do, isn’t it? I probably have about 10 of these and use each one to store different things- empty candle jars are perfect for storing mascaras, lip liners, eyeliners, eye pencils and makeup brushes.

When it comes to lipsticks, especially ones that are packaged like MAC, where you can’t see the color until you remove the cap- storing them upside down is something that really helps me out. This is a huge time-saver since it lets you find the shade you need quicker, without having to rummage through your entire collection.

.. right away. This is something I still struggle with sometimes (my beauty corner can get REALY messy at times) but putting everything back in its place right away will help you stay organized. This is something I make sure to do especially after going out- that’s when I usually change handbags and bring a few essentials with me (like lipstick, powder, etc.) I always make sure to put those back the next day.

When it comes to storing things like nail polishes, base and top coats, etc. keep in my mind that they need to be stored in a dry and cool place, so avoid storing them in your bathroom.

The only thing that I still haven’t been able to figure out is how to store my eyeshadow palettes- some of them are really bulky. Do you guys have any suggestions? How do you store your beauty products?

TJ Maxx/Homegoods as such great makeup storage pieces but I love that idea for the old candles! Not only are they pretty but functional as well!

Mine make up cupboard is a nightmare, I must admit. I never thought about candle jars though – must give then a try.

I am forever reorganising my makeup drawers and they just never stay that way!

I think dividers would work wonders for me, I just egt so frustrated with it looking messy.

These are some lovely ideas – I have a makeup bag which I switch up on a monthly basis so I keep trying new things and anything I’m not using, I store away. :)

You have some great ideas :) I store my makeup on top of a chest of drawers with glass between the chest and the containers which are white rectangular boxes. And my daily makeup is in an acrylic organizer right next to my mirror.

Such a great set of ideas and advice as always sweet! I love using dividers in my drawers and I too organise my makeup similarly to you. I’ve just seen someone in the comments mention using an old letter holder for storing palettes, I’ll have to try that.

We all love a good candle jar don’t we, haha!

I’m definitely trying that idea too! I find palettes so difficult to store, they’re all different sizes, etc. but the letter holder idea is awesome!

I’ve been so tired to keep makeup I barely use in my “daily” products so I couldn’t agree more with you ! The key is really to be organized, otherwise you can forget some of the products you have too (especially lipsticks, which is important to keep names visible, as you said !)

Yes! I like to rotate my products once in a while too, go through those that I don’t reach for too often and usually always find something I forgot I had haha :)

“Filling in brows with eyeliner”, I’ve been there luckily it didn’t look funny at all. It must be one of the good things of having black brows ha ha :) At the moment my makeup is really disorganised and I keep reaching to same products because I don’t want to get into makeup mess. Essentials tray and storing away unused ones are good ideas!

    I would love a before/after!

I thought I was the only one with an ‘essentials tray.’ Mine is on top of my storage bin next to my toolbox. Which is where I store all of my makeup.

I’ve seen people use letter holders for palettes. I always thought it looked pretty neat.

I love using candle jars they’re just so pretty :) I generally do my everyday makeup from a set of 2 large Muji drawers to save time that I switch up every week. I just had a pretty big clear out, which felt good! Xx

I agree with you, keeping things we use everyday in a tray is so helpful. I have a tray with the products I use regularly cause I find it easier to get ready in the.morning if I dont have to search through 55 eye pencils or 15 mascaras hahha! Lovely and helpful post :)

I bought a drawer set from eBay. It’s changed my life because my products were all over the place. I have a separate drawer for all brand new products I’ve never used. I’m also very good about giving away makeup to my friends. If the product didn’t work for me, it gets tossed in a bag and my best friend gives it a go. I’m buying this brush hold from Sephora!!

I bought a beauty stand/drawer from a storage shop. It had lipstick holders, as well as spaces for my mascara, brow pencil, lip liner. I pair them into groups. I put eye palettes in the drawer. I put it back in it places as well.
